What is the solution for stopping snoring ?

Sunday, August 23rd, 2009

I’ve been hearing a lot about the mouth piece which moves your lower jaw foward & the sea salt. I don’t think my snoring is serious enough to see a doctor. Can someone tell me if they have experience with any of these snoring solutions.

Adjust your sleeping posture
Try sleeping on your side or stomach or raise the head of your bed four to six inches.

Avoid alcoholic beverages
Particularly prior to bedtime.

Avoid medication that relaxes the muscles
This includes sleeping pills, tranquilizers, antihistamines, etc.

Ask your loved one for assistance
If you sleep with someone, ask him or her to wake you or roll you over if you snore.

Eliminate congestion
Gargle with salt water and/or use a decongestant to help rid yourself of congestion. Be sure to remove any possible allergens from your bedroom as well: dust, feather pillows, etc.

Exercise regularly
Not only will it improve your overall physical condition, it will help you lose weight.

Keep your nostrils open
Try using nasal strips and/or nasal dilators to help keep nostrils open and avoid nasal blockage

.

Lose weight
If you are overweight, try losing a few pounds.

Singing
Singing helps tone the flabby muscles of our upper airways. Belting out a few songs every day for approximately 20 minutes seems to do the trick for some.

Sleep regularly
Establish regular sleep patterns and get adequate sleep

.

Stop eating before bed
Don’t eat heavy meals within three hours of bedtime.

Stop smoking
Smoking weakens and clogs the throat.

Talk to your dentist
Ask about anti-snoring dental appliances.

Talk to your doctor
If your snoring becomes worse, ask your doctor about the possibility of using a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure machine) to help keep breathing passages open. If that fails, it may be time to consider one of the many surgical procedures available to control snoring

oh, and may I ask.. do you have asthama??? cause a lot of people that gave asthma has bigger snoring problems~
but whether you have asthma or not, you have to make sure the air is clean from pollen, smoke etc. If you have a pet I advise you to buy a air purifier to clean up the air in your room to make you lungs free from dust and bacteria.

Air conditioner can also be a reason why you snore, cause it can make your lung tighten up, so if you have a air conditioner make sure you don’t always use it~

also make sure your bed lining and pillow covers are cleaned AT LEAST once a week!!!

I really do advise you to see a docter serious or not, because snoring can get worse and snoring, if not treated properly will raise the chance for you to get lotsa diseases~.

What is application of CPAP device in medicine and how works it?

Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Dear my friends,
I would like to know about CPAP Device in medicine. And I have some question about it.
What is application of this device and how works it?
What parameters are important for it?
I am very thank you for your early reply.

CPAP is Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine is a device that delivers air at a constant elevated pressure to your airways usually during hours of sleep. It usually uses face masks or nasal prongs to deliver the air.
The most usual need for this is for a person who has OSA or obstructive sleep apnea
How does it work- well people with sleep apnea particularly the type that results from obesity loose airway muscle tone in deep sleep and this causes the airways to shut down and the oxygen saturaton in the blood to drop dangerously… the CPAP machine allows increased air pressure to be delivered to prevent these episodes.

Parameters? The settings are decided by an MD certified in sleep medicine (usually a pulmonologist or a neurologist) during a CPAP titration study. It takes into consideration several issues …how you tolerate different masks..if you need supplimental Oxygen or not etc. It is a very specialised field and you should follow recommendations form your sleep MD.

What side effects have you had using a CPap machine for sleep apenia?

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

My husband has been using his machine for just over 3 weeks, he is quite nauseous and feels unwell he is also having some burning sensation in his nasal passages. Can all this becoming from using the CPap machine it has a warm humidifier. there has been a remarkable change in his sleep issues. does any one have any answers to the side effects and are they common and what do we do.

Make sure he has been cleaning it out well every night and it might be about time to change the filters. He may need to increase or decrease the heat level (to get more or less humidity) which may help with some of the burning sensation. I had to mess around with mine for a couple weeks before I got it set to the right level, and about a year after using it, I changed some of the settings again to compensate for how my breathing had changed. I’ve noticed a huge difference in my sleep quality and can notice a difference from day to day if I fall asleep before I put it on, or if I wear it.

The biggest problem I have is an occasional sinus/upper respiratory tract infection. They’re usually viral though, so I stop using the machine for a couple days, clean it out really well and wait until the symptoms resolve, then start back.
