Has anyone heard very much about children’s sleep apnea and behavior problems?

My 8 year old son stops breathing on and off all through the night and he snores loudly. He gasps for air through out the night and wets to bed. He is also on medication for ADHD. I have heard there is a link between sleep apnea and ADHD symptoms. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Yes, a friend of my daughter’s was diagnosed with ADHD but then turned out to have sleep apnea. His ADHD symptoms were severe enough that he ended up repeating a grade … but when they removed his tonsils and the sleep apnea cleared up, so did the ADHD symptoms.

It’s very hard to concentrate if you haven’t actually had a good night’s sleep. Definitely get the sleep apnea treated; it may make a substantial difference.

What are some alternative treatments for sleep apnea?

I was diagnosed with a mild form of sleep apnea. I have tried a CPAP machine and couldn’t adjust to it. My doctor said I wouldn’t be a good candidate for surgery. I’m considering a dental device (mouth piece), but wanted to know if there are alternative methods.

I’m in the same situation as you. I would see about the dental device. Anything has to be better than the CPAP.

Is a regular blood test good enough to see if you have Narcolepsy or thyroid problem.?

When I was younger I use to sleep through out the night, but with talking, screaming, sleep walking on average. Now I have problems going to sleep and waking up several times per night. I can easily stay in bed 12 hours straight and still feel sleepy thought my day. I’ve gone to my doctor and had a blood test, but he says nothing wrong. Is a regular blood test good enough to see if you have Narcolepsy or thyroid problem.

no a regular blood test can test for thyroid, however it cannot test for narcolepsy. even if it was, you could also have hypersomnia (it’s like narcolepsy, but you don’t have any other symptom, but day time sleepiness) you should have a sleep study done. a night time one to check for things like sleep apnea and how much REM you are getting and a day time one (known as a sleep latency test) to test for narcolepsy and hypersomnia

Insomnia ::: What is the best medicine out there to help me sleep good?

I have sufferred from insomnia for years, im fed up – whats the best medicine out there i can ask my doctor to prescribe? insomnia is interfereing with my work life everything!!!
ive tried a natural remedy, i dont drink coffee, i stay away from caffiene, and i dont eat after 7 pm. i workout around 7pm till 8pm 4-5x a week, which on occassion will help me sleep, but as time has gone on, it feels like i just cant sleep. cant fall asleep and once im asleep i wake up about 4 times a night its awful

melatonin is the best thing since counting sheep. you can buy it over the counter in 3mg tablets. its cheap and it doesnt make me feel drowsy or drugged when i wake up.

What is a good otc med for a snoring pit bull?

My pit bull, Bones, snores so loud at night when she sleeps. It doesn’t seem to be affecting her quality of sleep, just mine…LOL I’m pretty sure her vet could prescribe something, but I was wondering if anyone had tried any of the over the counter medications for dogs with snoring problems. If so, did any of them seem to work?

Only your vet can tell you what you need to know.
Essentially, unless your dog has an occlusion (a blockage of some sort), there isn’t much to do. Nor should you.

My dogs snore too, and the get worse with age (like people), so I sympathize. I just had to learn to live with it.

Take her to the vet and get her checked out. But the overwhelming likelyhood is she just snores!

How to reduce the stress caused by insomnia?

I’m asking this on behalf of my friend who is some what suffering from insomnia and this is really affecting her stress rate. Her mom always asks her to sleep at 7pm when she isn’t tired and she ends up staring into mid air blankly in the middle of the night. And this is really adding to her stress rate. Please help by giving some suggestions >.< thank you.

Anyway you can not sleep! Then at least find something useful to do and the pleasure for having done something helpful to other people helps balancing stress.

Another good effect is that when you do something else than usual you might forget about your casual problems which do not let you feel how tired you really are. This is the best way to get easily asleep!
