Does sleep apnea still make you tired even though you are on c-pap treatment?

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

I have been on c-pap treatment for a little over 2 months. I am still just as tired all the time as I was before the treatment. Is this to be expected.?

This is not common at all. Most patients feel the exact opposite. In fact, most patients feel immediate relief. You should go back to your Dr. Maybe some adjustments need to be made. You may not have the machine set at good setting for you. Also, if your mask does not have a tight fit to help seal it then it won’t really work at all. A loose connection could be a non-conforming or not tight mask and even a loose connection. Contact your Dr. and he can help check those adjustments. He/She may even take away or add inspiratory pressure.

Good luck.

Are there any natural solutions that can help my husband snoring?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

He has tried the over the counter nose strips and the mouth spray. They help some but not enough. He just simply will not have surgery to stop the snoring. I simply need some sleep! Thanks.

The above answer is ridiculous!! Anyways snoring is a sign of restrictive breathing and I actually would not recommend the surgeries whatsoever. They do not work and neither do home remedies. Most likely your husband has obstructive sleep apnea. Snoring is a very good indicator, although not always present. Sleep apnea is associated with many cardiac issues such as high blood pressure, heart failure, stroke and can be fatal if left untreated. Your husband needs to be evaluated by a board certified sleep physician and have a sleep study performed. The only proven effective treatment for sleep apnea is CPAP or continous positive airway pressure and it will stop the snoring so you can get your rest as well. Good luck

What are some good, effective methods to cure insomnia?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

I get frequent bouts of insomnia, as I’m sure we ALL do, but it gets to the point on many nights (and there have been many for me, believe me) where I can’t fall asleep no matter how hard I try and yet I’m so damn tired. I just lay awake feeling restless. Does anybody know of a good way to help combat insomnia? I could really use the added sleep to boost my energy drive at work.

These are the practices you can use to improve the quality of your sleep and feel good again.

* music as a sleep aid
* natural sleep aids
* therapedic sleep products

Getting sleep in the correct quantities is a vital part of staying healthy. You don’t have to rely on a chemical insomnia sleep aid to do it either. In addition to the ideas above, consider using the Sleep So Good cream to get some all natural relief.

Can I use a CPAP machine without consulting a doctor?

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

I am in chronic pain and my doctor said I should get a sleep study to see if I have sleep apnea. But to consult a specialist will run me $250 and then the test is probably going to cost a bunch too. I figured for $250 I could get a cpap machine and a mask and just try the therapy and see if it has a positive effect. Is this a good or a bad idea?

CPAP machines are medical devices. You can’t get one without a doctor’s prescription…. and even if you could, you can’t get it set to the right pressure setting unless you’ve had a sleep study.

My wife had oral surgery, and they added on a special procedure to eliminate sleep apnea, which was great for about a year, until her medical condition caused her to gain a great deal of weight.

She loaned her machine to her brother, although it didn’t do him any good as it was set to HER needs, and not his. We mentioned this to our doctor who smiled, but told her never to do that again. It’s illegal as it is practicing medicine without a license.

So – Bottom line is that it’s a bad idea. Sorry, wish it was cheaper and easier for you. You really need the sleep study to figure out your needs.

If you snore regularly while sleeping and especially if it is loud enough to annoy people around you, it is almost certain you have sleep apnea. If this is the case just suck it up and get the test…. it will be worth it.

I have sleep apnea, and it is really annoy for my partner, and I don’t know what to do? I already tried to use over the counter stop snoring spray, but it did not work. Please give me good advice, thanks a lot.
Kiddo.

If you know you have sleep apnea it means you have been tested by a doctor. Why on earth didn’t he get you a CPAP machine. That took care of my problem. When you have sleep apnea you stop breathing in your sleep. It will stop the snoring and help you breath.

Why does my Cpap machine leak water into my nose?

Saturday, October 10th, 2009

My cpap machine works fine until I turn on my back, and all this water gushes up my nose.

Water will build up in the tubing….make sure you empty it before you use it.

Take the tubing off and place it with one opening over a sink/garbage can etc and let the water out.

If you fill the chamber with too much water this can happen too. Make sure you only fill it to the line.

Good luck!

Has anyone heard very much about children’s sleep apnea and behavior problems?

Sunday, October 4th, 2009

My 8 year old son stops breathing on and off all through the night and he snores loudly. He gasps for air through out the night and wets to bed. He is also on medication for ADHD. I have heard there is a link between sleep apnea and ADHD symptoms. Does anyone else know anything about this?

Yes, a friend of my daughter’s was diagnosed with ADHD but then turned out to have sleep apnea. His ADHD symptoms were severe enough that he ended up repeating a grade … but when they removed his tonsils and the sleep apnea cleared up, so did the ADHD symptoms.

It’s very hard to concentrate if you haven’t actually had a good night’s sleep. Definitely get the sleep apnea treated; it may make a substantial difference.
