I might have sleep apnea. What are typical symptoms of this?

Saturday, August 29th, 2009

I am very fatigued during the day and do not have energy, I am a little shakey and not super happy and energetic like I used to be.

At the height of my sleep apnea, the symptoms were;
heavy loud snoring,
teeth grinding,
getting up frequently at night to urinate urgently,
feeling groggy/logy most of the day,
falling asleep mid lecture (if sitting down),
falling asleep at odd times & then popping back up realizing i was asleep,
falling asleep while driving (scary)
getting home from work & napping until it was time to go to bed,

Get a sleep study done asap! apnea is life threatening!
i now sleep using a CPAP/BIPAP machine & virtually all those symptoms are gone!

I’ve got a friend that can’t sleep properly, and she’s had this for almost 5 years. Is there any way or method of getting some sleep with Insomnia without seeing a doctor or taking sleeping pills?

-Drink a cup of warm milk before sleeping
-Relax before sleeping
-Don’t think too much before sleeping
-Pray
-Listen to soothing relaxing music
-Read an inspirational or an extremely boring book
-Try melatonin, a natural sleeping pill (may or may not work)
-Do some simple stretching exercise before sleeping
-Eat only 80% full, at least 3 hours before sleep.
-Sleep at a regular time each day.

More (most) aggressive treatment for sleep apnea?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I had a UPPP surgery to help with my sleep apnea (CPAP machine-titration 19), it wasn’t effective. I would like to know what are other more aggressive options to help regulate my sleep apnea.

Not sure if they have one in your area, but the "Sleep Wellness Center". I know the guy from the morning show I produce has sleep apnea. He used to fall asleep on air (no joking), and would be drousy during the day. He’s been fine ever since they diagnosed it and reccommended he use the machine he currently has… He swears by it.

How do I find the right doctor for my anxiety and insomnia?

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I have to find a doctor that accepts my insurance (Humana HMO) and will help me with my anxiety and insomnia. I tried going to the website and picking a doctor at random, and he was horrible, he didn’t help at all. I don’t have time to go doctor shopping, but my symptoms are getting out of control.

Take a vacation , go to the beach , take a mental day off , meditate , get delta wave cds for relaxation , practice breathing techniqes …before bed

What is a good OTC stimulant for Narcolepsy?

I have narcolepsy and cannot really afford the prescription drugs. Any suggestions?

Caffeine, ephedrine, pseudoephedrine. Vigorous excercise several times a day also helps.

My father has sleep apnea, but no symptoms?

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

My father has sleep apnea and I’m really worried what will happen if he doesn’t get it checked. My mom already bugged him to get it checked but he again keeps denying to go to the doctors.

He doesn’t has serious symptoms, he doesn’t sweat alot, have heart burn, high cholesterol or has trouble breathing, nor has gain weight. I try to always keep him on a bicycle but riding with him but I’m still worried in th future.

Should I still strongly suggest him to see the doctors? He the age of 55.

Even people without all those other problems can have sleep apnea. I knew many people who were normal-weighted and had sleep apnea. The #1 symptom is tiredness during the day. a "checkup" consists of them watching him sleep for a night to see if he really does have sleep apnea. If he does, then they can give him a special mask to wear at night. If he does decide to take care of himself this way, he will experience a huge difference in how he feels during the day.
