Sleep Paralysis and Dreams

Sleep paralysis is a common condition that may occur in normal subjects or be ociated with narcolepsy, cataplexy, and hypnagogic hallucinations. The pathophysiology of this condition is closely related to the normal hypotonia that occur during REM sleep.

Physiologically, it is closely related to the paralysis that occurs as a natural part of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is known as REM atonia. Sleep paralysis occurs when the brain awakes from a REM state, but the body paralysis persists. This leaves the person fully conscious, but unable to move. In addition, the state may be accompanied by terrifying hallucinations (hypnopompic or hypnagogic) and an acute sense of danger. Sleep paralysis is particularly frightening to the individual due to the vividness of such hallucinations. The hallucinatory element to sleep paralysis makes it even more likely that someone will interpret the experience as a dream, since completely fanciful, or dream-like, objects may appear in the room alongside one’s normal vision.

i had experienced the paralysis for over 4 years now. when it had first started i was a little scared and i thought i was being abducted.but i now find it quite amusing.i wake up unable to talk or move anything but my eyes.i get blinded by light from my tv too.usually il experience 15 in a month over a period of 5 days.i think there is someone watching me and someone is under my bed.i can also fight my way out of it if i try hard enough. it takes about 30 sec to counter.

    nice video.
    i …

    nice video.
i experience sleep paralysis at least one to two times a week.
often, its a pleasant experience where i don’t hallucinate and its not frightening. other times i’ll see shadows, hear voices, random noises, small human-like creatures attacking me. a recent one i had, i experienced being dragged across my floor then waking up before i hit the top of the stairs.
i’m better at waking myself up, but sometimes i’ll wake up into another ‘dead dream’, and recedes with some lucid dreaming.

what makes me believe they are demons is one other night i seen what was pressing my chest down and chocking me. it was evil looking and so very dark. it looked like it was enjoying what it was doing and had no remorse in its eyes . i was sure i was going to die. my sister experienced the same thing only while it was happening to her her radio was turning on and off and up and down in volume. i have not doubt now of the spirit world.

whats up man. i have had many sleep paralysis experiences and i believe they are demonic possession . one night i lay on my front. i awoke to my door opening and foot steps coming over to my bed. i could not move and felt a hand around my neck and a knee on my back. i couldnt see what it was as i was facing the wall but it scared the out of me. i soon regained my strenght and nothing was there. my brother told me i sounded like i was in pain and he could not make out what i was mumbling.

when i was little i think i got sleep paralysis once. i felt like i was in an odd open-air building and there were hostile wolves all around the building looking at me. i don’t know if it was just that i woke up and was too scared to move or if it was real sleep paralysis though

believe me, I thought aliens are visiting my room when I had it the first time at the tender age of 13. looking and reading the waterloo university research I understood that it’s just a thing with your brain. nothing to worry about, it’s a procedure that happens to EVERYONE, just not everyone actually experience it.
