Is it possible to accidentally astrally project during an episode of sleep paralysis?
I have terrible nightmares, which are likely episodes of sleep paralysis. I am looking for ways to calm myself to lesson the fear during these episodes but I don’t want to do anything which might cause an out of body experience or astral projecting. I am not even sure these things exists, but don’t want to cause my brain to think they do….any thoughts?
Dont worry Out of Body Experiences can never happen if your afraid or anxious.

I would try to get to the bottom of why you are having the nightmares.
It has something to do with your waking life.
I would not worry too much about accidentally having an out of body experience.
It sounds like that is the least of your worries if you are having nightmares a lot.

Yes, it is possible for accidental astrial projection to happen during any dream actually. I’ve had it happen once, it was so real but scary all at once. The most vivid part of it was when I "re-entered" my body…I recall being a foot above my bed looking down at it, spinning like an arrow on a board game. For a long time I denied it, but the person I saw in my out of body experienced was a practicing wiccan and confirmed seeing me while awake late at nite 20 miles away. I didn’t even tell her what I had felt had happend…she told me. So, yea I truly believe anything is possible.

If you remain clam during the sleep paralysis stage, you can astral project. The problem is that your mind is aware and fully awake.
