LX Sleep Software Kit LX Sleep software applies proprietary algorithms to data collected by NorthEast s OxyHolter to provide a simple alternative to the expensive, intrusive PSG sleep lab experience in identifying OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea). LX Sleep defines epochs of normal versus SDB (sleep diordered breathing). Then it performs pattern recognition on ECG and SpO2 signals; and applies a linear discriminant analysis and an age-based classifier to derive an AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index). An AHI < 5 represents no clinically significant apnea; 5 ≤ AHI < 15 represents mild apnea; AHI ≥ 15 represents moderate-to-severe apnea. Holter LX Analysis users can easily add the LX Sleep software option and users of the tried-and-true DR180+ can upgrade to OxyHolter with the addition of an OxyHolter cable, thereby creating the most accurate and easy-to-use OSA detection system on the market today. Features of this software kit: OxyHolter plus LX Sleep exceeds accuracy of ECG-only analysis 100% sensitivity and specificity for OSA in preliminary studies Less than 1/3rd the cost of a full PSG study Epoch-driven analysis, pattern recognition and classifiers provide AHI (Apnea Hypopnea Index) Patient compliance exceeds PSG lab The first step to relieve symptoms of OSA Integrated add-on software to Holter LX Analysis Industry-leading 3-year warranty NEMK11

my wife uses a cpap machine but keeps taking it off because she says it freezes her lips. The heat is adjusted as high as it will go and it is set on 9 for airflow. I think the flow is too high and the cold is caused by windchill. any suggestions.
It sounds like the humidifier she is using is not a heated humidifier. In that case you need to contact your respiratory company and let them know you want a heated humidifier. Most CPAPs come with a cold air humidifier. Using chapstick will help with the coldness. The air flow of 9 is something that you should not mess with. The doctor has set that number for her specifically because of her lungs. She needs that number to be at 9.

The visual aid isn’t to show what the disease does but to show exactly how it works all the way down to the nerves and cells. All i know about how it works is that the decrease in production of hypocretin (hormone that pretty much keeps us awake) causes the people to become very tired at odd hours of the day. I know that probably not many people will have answers but any of them would definitely help.
A poster would probably be a back up if you don’t have anything else in mind but maybe a video on somebody effected by the disorder… sorry I can’t think of anything else

Sometimes, in the middle of the night I find myself in the throes of sleep paralysis, like last night I could see myself struggling to get from under a black sheet although there is isn’t one on my bed. It only lasts for a few seconds but very terrifying is there anything I can do to help myself from experiencing this?
Possible causes
Sleep paralysis occurs during REM sleep, thus preventing the body from manifesting movements made in the subject’s dreams. Very little is known about the physiology of sleep paralysis. However, some have suggested that it may be linked to post-synaptic inhibition of motor neurons in the pons region of the brain. In particular, low levels of melatonin may stop the depolarization current in the nerves, which prevents the stimulation of the muscles, to prevent the body from enacting the dreamt activity (e.g. preventing a sleeper from flailing his legs when dreaming about running).
Several studies have concluded that many or most people will experience sleep paralysis at least once or twice in their lives.
Many people who commonly enter sleep paralysis also suffer from narcolepsy. In African-Americans, panic disorder occurs with sleep paralysis more frequently than in Caucasians]. Some reports read that various factors increase the likelihood of both paralysis and hallucinations. These include:
Sleeping in an upwards supine position
Irregular sleeping schedules; naps, sleeping in, sleep deprivation
Increased stress
Sudden environmental/lifestyle changes
A lucid dream that immediately precedes the episode. Also conscious induction of sleep paralysis is a common technique to enter a state of lucid dreams, also known as WILD .
Artificial sleeping aides, ADD medications and/or antihistamines
Recent use of hallucinogenic drugs
Treatment
During paralysis episodes, patients may be advised to try moving the facial muscles and moving eyes from one side to the other. This may hasten the termination of the attack.[citation needed]
Clonazepam is highly effective in the treatment of sleep paralysis. The initial dose is 0.5 mg at bedtime, while an increase to 1 mg per night might be necessary to maintain potency. Anecdotal reports indicate SSRIs such as fluoxetine markedly decrease the incidence of sleep paralysis. Several people who have been both on and off SSRIs have reported corresponding decreases and increases in sleep paralysis episodes. Others report no effects at all.

have a son whoses having sleep issues and he has seen drs. and they dont know why,i would like to find a web site where you can ask questions and get back answers
You’re asking for medical advice, and that’s never free. You might find other doctors or contact a research hospital.

I have been on c-pap treatment for a little over 2 months. I am still just as tired all the time as I was before the treatment. Is this to be expected.?
This is not common at all. Most patients feel the exact opposite. In fact, most patients feel immediate relief. You should go back to your Dr. Maybe some adjustments need to be made. You may not have the machine set at good setting for you. Also, if your mask does not have a tight fit to help seal it then it won’t really work at all. A loose connection could be a non-conforming or not tight mask and even a loose connection. Contact your Dr. and he can help check those adjustments. He/She may even take away or add inspiratory pressure.
Good luck.

I have already taken all the sleep medications there is. Im thinking of a sleep clinic but I heard if you have insomnia they just give you a sleep aid.
You should try brainwave entrainment. I had long-term, crushing insomnia for years and tried all the pills and herbs but they just didn’t fix it. Brainwave entrainment uses ambient music tracks to lull your brain into producing the right brainwaves for sleep. People are right when they say you should change your lifestyle and this is part of that, because using it for a while ‘re-trains’ your brain. At this point your brain is probably conditioned not to fall asleep, so you’ll have to recondition it.
There are reviews for several options for this-one of them free-at the blog listed below.
