Does any one out there take modafinil for narcolepsy? How are you finding it?

I suppose I thought that once I started medication i would be a bundle of energy and get all those jobs done that I used to avoid by falling asleep. I feel better but stil nod off occasionally.

From what i have heard from a friend who has it you still get tired and occational full asleep unexpectedly but mostly you are much more alert and gives you plenty of energy as well. I hope you continue to feel well and the medicine continies to help you.

I take it for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea and only take a low dose (100mg once daily). I understand that the regular dose is 200mg per day and can be prescribed in excess of that.

As for how I find it. It just stops me being so dog tired all day. I’m not bursting with energy, nor do I feel that it really has any major effect on my general cognitive function or mood other than making me feel like I am "back to normal". I don’t have any side effects and if I miss a dose I do find that I will fall asleep a lot easier than without it. If I have had my daily dose and I am tired through, say a late night or whatever, then I can still quite easily nap in the day, but the nap would not be as long as previous. I recently had some trouble getting my prescription and went three days without, and was out for the count each day by 3 or 4pm till gone 7 or 8pm.

I’m no expert but it might be worth talking to your docs about the dose but I suppose it depends on how much you are still falling asleep.
