The Official Patient’s Sourcebook on Narcolepsy
Sunday, November 1st, 2009
This book has been created for patients who have decided to make education and research an integral part of the treatment process. Although it also gives information useful to doctors, caregivers and other health professionals, it tells patients where and how to look for information covering virtually all topics related to narcolepsy (also Gelineau’s Syndrome; narcoleptic syndrome; paroxysmal sleep; sleep epilepsy), from the essentials to the most advanced areas of research. The title of this book includes the word official. This reflects the fact that the sourcebook draws from public, academic, government, and peer-reviewed research. Selected readings from various agencies are reproduced to give you some of the latest official information available to date on Narcolepsy. Given patients’ increasing sophistication in using the Internet, abundant references to reliable Internet-based resources are provided throughout this sourcebook. Where possible, guidance is provided on how to obtain free-of-charge, primary research results as well as more detailed information via the Internet. E-book and electronic versions of this sourcebook are fully interactive with each of the Internet sites mentioned (clicking on a hyperlink automatically opens your browser to the site indicated). Hard-copy users of this sourcebook can type cited Web addresses directly into their browsers to obtain access to the corresponding sites. In addition to extensive references accessible via the Internet, chapters include glossaries of technical or uncommon terms.
What could I use as a visual aid for my project on narcolepsy?
Sunday, October 25th, 2009The visual aid isn’t to show what the disease does but to show exactly how it works all the way down to the nerves and cells. All i know about how it works is that the decrease in production of hypocretin (hormone that pretty much keeps us awake) causes the people to become very tired at odd hours of the day. I know that probably not many people will have answers but any of them would definitely help.
A poster would probably be a back up if you don’t have anything else in mind but maybe a video on somebody effected by the disorder… sorry I can’t think of anything else
Psychosocial Aspects of Narcolepsy
Saturday, October 24th, 2009How do you cure/treat this WORST narcolepsy?
Thursday, October 22nd, 2009Narcolepsy (excessive daytime sleepiness) with hypnogogic hallucinations
that or at least i sleep for short periods of time even at midday without knowing it (coz of hypnogogic hallucinations)
plus, i sleeptalk everytime i sleep, so i do it at day too, and i seem stupid and idiotic when other people are around, they’re just suddenly gonna hear me say stuff everytime the narcolepsy-sleeptalking combo happens
pls answer seriously
Here is a different response, which you may occasionally find useful. I cannot answer your question as asked.
You could use a timer, an alarm clock or the timer in a mobile phone to waken you at a certain time. It may be even possible to put the phone on vibration only.
Does any one out there take modafinil for narcolepsy? How are you finding it?
Monday, October 19th, 2009I suppose I thought that once I started medication i would be a bundle of energy and get all those jobs done that I used to avoid by falling asleep. I feel better but stil nod off occasionally.
From what i have heard from a friend who has it you still get tired and occational full asleep unexpectedly but mostly you are much more alert and gives you plenty of energy as well. I hope you continue to feel well and the medicine continies to help you.
